Dark & Beautiful Secrets'.
We're getting closer 和 closer to the release of 诺曼底's 新唱片'Dark & Beautiful Secrets', 和 the band are treating us to another track that will appear on it.
'Babylon' opens the album 和 is the sort of pulsating slice of pop-rock that's designed to get stuck in 您r head for weeks on end.
由于covid限制，它使我们有更多时间 to dive into the studio again 和 play around with new ideas. The song came purely from just having fun 和 playing around using breaths 和 coughs as instruments."
您’re either in or out. To me, identity is what 您 get when 您 mix all the things 您 identify with, bits 和 pieces that then become 您 as whole."
We chatted to Philip all about the record a couple of months ago, which 您 can read in full HERE. Here's a little taste for 您 though:
How did 您 go about approaching the making of this record after the ‘White Flag’ era?
一世’已经产生了我们到目前为止所做的所有记录，但是['16 Debut Album] ‘Inguz’当我回到父母那年的那一年时，这在很大程度上是卧室生产的东西’s house 和 ‘White Flag’ was between two different studios. With this record we had the perfect space 和 the perfect environment. It was our own space to do whatever we wanted to do.
“So with ‘Dark & Beautiful Secrets’，之后我们立刻感到‘White Flag’我们想做些奇怪的事情。 Toto and Metallica, which is a weird mix but when 您 do mix them 您 find these harmonies 和 cool instruments. I just wanted to make that work for 诺曼底, so that’s what the last two years have been. There was then a time when it all clicked 和 that was when we wrote ‘Holy Water’. That’s where the really dark feeling came into place 和 we all felt like we were onto something very personal here. That darkness can either be a ‘Fuck Society’ vibe or it can be something very emotional 和 reflective towards 您rself. That’s when we made the conscious effort to write something personal 和 the rest of the record came together in two or three months afterwards.”
How did it feel when 您 realised that 您 had uncovered something completely new within 您rself that 您 felt like 您 had to write about it?
I didn’t want to have an album that was 50% personal 和 50% love 和 breakup stories. As soon as we said it had to be personal, every single song needed to be just as personal. 我们’ve written songs about different things that people can feel 和 relate to, 和 this was more of a decision of this being something we wanted to go 和 cross our fingers 和 hope people can relate to it. It’s a big risk.”
“It’s really scary. It was especially scary when we came home from the tours we did with Dream State 和 The Faim last year, because we had been playing ‘Jericho’ 和 that’当我们真正进入想要的氛围时。那’s where ‘Holy Water’ came from 和 once I wrote it I had to go back 和 change the lyrics to ‘Jericho’对我来说有意义。我改变了每一个‘you’ to ‘me’ 和 it became this big song about my upbringing.
