Carl Hayden Community High School Science & Technology Club
- Web site
The club is comprised of many students that want to participate from the entire student body. There are many different technical and nontechnical roles that club members can be involved in. One of the keys to the success of the club is that the students raise much of the club funds through the Arizona Tax Credit Plan. Another aspect of the team is one all the sponsors and students and all the rest of the faculty and administration share. The aspect in question is one of empowering the students. The team members want to show everyone that despite the location of the school, the socioeconomics of the general student population, general public's perception of public schools, they can set the bar as high as any other school and they can not only participate, but excel. The club has won numerous awards from their electric cars, their ham radio competitions, their robotics, their catapult competitions, etc. The club has also had media coverage from newspapers and radio to television. They present or exhibit all over the Phoenix metropolitan area throughout the year! The club is also on a campaign to change the surrounding community's perception of science and technology.
